A Brief History of the Schmidt Family
All that we know at this time, is that the earliest of our Schmidt ancestors resided in Wabrzezno (German name - Briesen), Poland for about 70 years before they immigrated to the US in 1882.
John Schmidt, born May 1837 in Wabrzezno, immigrated to the US from Rynsk, Poland where he lived for a short period of time. He arrived in New York aboard the SS Albingia on April 12, 1882 with his wife, Elizabeth Lange, and three children, John, Frank and Frances. John and the family lived in Chicago. He died May 1895 and is buried in St. Boniface's cemetery in Chicago.
Anna and Frank Schmidt
Frank Schmidt, born January 1866 in Wabrzezno, arrived in the US when he was 16 years old. He worked as a carpenter and electrician for International Harvester. He married Anna Guttman in October 1892 in St. Stanislaus Kostka church - Chicago. They had five children, Chester, Frances, Stanley, Harriet and Frank Jr. Frank died March 1948 and is buried in St Adalbert's cemetery in Niles, IL.
Martha and Stanley Schmidt
Stanley Schmidt, born April 1897 in Chicago, served in the US Navy during WWI. He married Martha Ochocki in May 1930 in St. Ladislaus church. They had one child Stanley. He worked as a bookkeeper for several companies. He died in Febuary 1979 and is buried in St. Joseph's cemetry in River Grove, IL.
His son, Stanley was born in Chicago and served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict - on the USS Amphion. He married Joan Smyrski in Armstrong Creek, WI. They have three children, Annette, Richard and Michael. Stan worked as an electrical engineer and resides in Roselle, IL.
